Casino – The Movie About the Mafia and the Gambling Corporations

Casino is a film about the Mafia, but it is also a study of how gambling corporations have taken over the desert city. Unlike Scorsese’s other mafia movies, it’s less concerned with plot and character, and more focused on history. It explains how the Mafia got rich off casinos, and then was spit out of Vegas by big gambling corporations. It’s an epic history lesson, but one that is told with the kind of energy and pacing that makes it a compelling watch. Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, and Joe Pesci all give outstanding performances, but the star of this movie is Vegas itself.

Modern casinos are designed to be visually stimulating, with flashing lights and a constant flow of people. They play music that creates a manufactured blissful experience, and the scent of food wafts through their ventilation systems to keep people coming back for more. They even use software to increase the frequency of “near-win” outcomes, so that players believe they’re making progress and winning money.

Despite the fact that casinos are run by big businesses and profit from players’ losses, they’re not as evil as you might think. They do a lot to protect their customers, from making sure they’re not drinking too much alcohol to keeping the rooms as clean as possible. And of course, they’re all about customer service: a good online casino will have a phone number and video chat option to allow players to contact their representatives if they need any help or have a question.
